We’ve sliced, diced, shredded . We’ve fried, roasted and broiled. I saw self-professed “Terrible Cooks” blossom into Fearless Cooks right before my very eyes and it’s time to share that with You on Season II of “Fearless in the Kitchen”! I’m very proud of this season where the excursions were more fun and the challenges were massive and hope you’ll join us in celebrating the men and women who took the fearless journey with me in front of our cameras.
So without further ado- I’m pleased to announce:
THE FEARLESS IN THE KITCHEN- SEASON II DEBUT!
After all of our pre-production, hard work and dedication (a big Shout Out to the entire team for a job WELL done- BRAVO!), Season II of “Fearless in the Kitchen” debuts with Max’s episode on Saturday, June 5th on VIVA(channel 72) at 7:30pm EST. If you miss the Saturday viewing, tune in on Sunday at 4:30pm to catch the replay.
I had a blast working with Max. This is a fun-loving, single, outgoing dad who realizes that he lacks skills in the kitchen. And I mean basic skills. But this was perfect for our purposes, because for me, it meant that I could start from scratch with Max and really get him into some good habits because I saw him starting to develop some bad ones. And it meant he was open minded enough to go with it- even if it may have seemed foreign to him at first. It’s also the perfect way to start the season- from the foundation up!
Max is also learning to cook as a way to connect with his fiancée – who also happens to be a really good cook. I’m happy to report that Max’s enthusiasm and eagerness allowed him to really absorb some proper cooking techniques and shed his old meat steaming ways. What am I talking about?
Basics of Cooking Meat: Most people, like Max, make the mistake of being afraid to cook meat using high heat. They think they’ll burn their steak or meat and instead, choose to cook at a lower temperature. What ends up happening is you end up steaming your meat instead of searing it. This makes meat tough, and if you’re like Max, you end up with gray coloured stir fries that aren’t exactly inviting. This was a real “Ah HA!” moment for Max!
He is also a huge Mexican food fan- so I took him to the source- Toronto’s own Frida Restaurant and Wine Bar where Mexico City-born Chef Jose Hadad led the way with authentic, fresh Mexican salsas. Alba Lisa worked her magic with just-made tortillas and we were all blown away. This real, fresh food wowed Max. Just goes to show how easy and simple it is to do it right- no need for over-processed, pre-packaged salsas trying to pass themselves off as the real thing. At Frida, there are no Tex-Mex copies- just the real deal and it’s about time! To see how Max fared in the rest of his episode, we’ll you’ll just have to tune in on June 5th at 7:30pm on VIVA to find out!
